So I've been prepping the bird for her MOT and I noticed that the right hand fork had a trace of hydraulic fluid at the joint between the top of the fork leg casing and the embellishment collar ... does that thing come off? These are the full chrome jobbies. I've seen this happen before when bikes are stood for a while. I'm also aware that they sometimes reseal once they seen a few road miles.
This bike hasn't got any mileage on it so the seals aren't worn out.

Yes they do come off. I made a tool from an old length of metal car aerial that you can use to tap the cap off locating it in the small groove on the inside of cap, I tap the caps back on with small lengths of pine timber which won't bruise the chrome. Once the cap is off you can slide a piece of stiff thin plastic down between the seal and the fork to push any grit down. I've read about using an old credit card but don't think they are flexible enough. A piece cut from an ice cream container should work.

Same symptoms as mine, left fork. There is a company that sells the plastic made for the repair.

Thank you my man I'll give it a dose of looking at ... making stuff to fix stuff ... I'm all over that. Just got to hope that my neighbor doesn't find out that I'm gonna rip his aerial off and that I need to consume the remaining 75% of the ice cream in order to fashion the requisite tools.

You're right ... over here it's called 'SEAL MATE'. I thought I'd bought one for my TLS 1000 restoration but I can't remember ....
No matter I've got some ice cream eating to do

Well my first attempt to remove the shroud was unsuccessful ... Looks as if I'm going to have to remove the wheel in order to get enough clout on the end of the drift. It looks to be >5mm interference fit that doesn't respond well to one sided removal. The positioning of that notch is good for aesthetics but piss poor from a routine maintenance stand point.

Like many service procedures on this bike, it requires patience and time, helps if the bike is up on a lift too at a better height. Good luck.
